Auction of Allosaurus skeleton
Published: 25th Nov 2015
The skeleton of a juvenile Allosaurus goes up for auction today at the West Sussex auctioneers of Summers Place Auctions in Billingshurst. The skeleton is 2.7 metres from a juvenile Allosaurus that would have lived during the late Jurassic about 150 million years ago.
It is rare to have a near complete dinosaur so there is expected to be great interest from museums and private collectors and the auctioneers expect the sale price to be between £300,000 and £500,000. The Allosaurus was first discovered in Wyoming, USA, by two teenage boys. However there was disappointment as bidding stopped before the reserve price was reached.
The Dinosaur Museum has an articulated skull with dagger-like teeth of an Allosaurus on display. Allosaurus was the Jurassic equivalent of T rex.
