Published: 17th Aug 2015
The largest feathered dinosaur has been discovered in by a farmer in northeastern China. The fossil is extremely well-preserved and has been named Zhenyuanlong by scientists. This raptor was a cousin of Velociraptor of Jurassacic Park fame and was about 2 metres long and lived 125 million years ago in the early part of Cretaceous period. Zhenyuanlong had huge wings and massive talonsand the whole of its body was probably covered with a thick layer of colourful feathers. Scientists think that it was incapable of flight so the feathers could have performed a display purpose as well as for insulation.
