Oldest Bird Footprints in Australia

Published: 29th Oct 2013

Dinosaur Cove in Australia is formed from Early Cretaceous rocks. New footprints discovered there are from ancient birds that would have lived alongside dinosaurs about 105 million years ago. The tracks are of a thin-toed bird about the size of a heron, and in places show marks where the bird has skidded on landing. Dinosaur Cove has yielded many non avain dinosaur fossils but only one fossilized wishbone from a bird has so far been discovered.
